360 Film Festival - Winners 2019

The winners of the fourth edition of the 360 Film Festival reflect the great vitality of digital creation in the immersive worlds of VR/AR/Large Formats... The Festival received more than 140 creations from 27 countries and the Jury made its choice from 31 works selected in official competition...

The quality of the creations being particularly important at the 2019 Festival, the Jury, chaired this year by Gérard Krawczyk, and the Maison des Scénaristes - which awarded the Prize for Best Storytelling - had to deliberate a lot... To award its 11 prizes, the jury first and foremost took into account the technical quality at the service of narrative, in accordance with the DNA of the festival...

The 360 Film Festival's winners were unveiled at an awards ceremony on November 5 at the heart of SATIS, on the first day of the show....

Focus on the Winners of the 2019 edition

For the first time since its creation, the 360 Film Festival welcomed Escape Games VR in its competition. Two of them were rewarded. All the news of the two winning companies are available below.

Are we dead? from Virtual Room

The crazy Escape Game where you play as a zombie is the cardboard box of Virtual Room.

The winner of two awards at the last 360 Film Festival (Best Integration Award and Best Interactivity Award), Virtual Room is being screened in the 20 Virtual Room theaters around the world where it has been a huge success.

But Virtual does not intend to stop there. Several openings in Europe and the USA are planned. And a new game should see the light of day in the middle of the year, "a game for the general public and fun" announces Jean-Luc Gignoux, the co-founder of Virtual Room.

Find the trailer of the game below.

Toyland from Illucity

The first big production of the Illucity rooms and the Backlight Studio pleases the players. Here, you are toys that must thwart the machiavellian plan of the Crazy Monkey. Toy Story fans, this game is for you !

The winner of the Best Animation Award at the last edition of the 360 Film Festival is the pride of the studio and its exhibitor who offers it in its Parisian and Marseille spaces. And soon in Brest with the opening of its new space on March 24th.

Illucity continues its development by offering high quality team building evenings.

AR GRAND PRIX

Since 2018, the 360 Film Festival has opened its competition to Augmented Reality content. In 2019, the first AR Grand Prix was awarded to a jewel of cultural mediation from the Liberation Paris Museum: Insurrection 1944 !

Insurrection 1944 from RealCast

The RealCast's creation, produced by Paris Musées, is a real success, as much for the mediation of the place as for the technical challenge that the teams were able to take up!

The winner has since evolved. 6 months after the opening, the course is available with HoloLens 2. "This improves the quality of the experience in terms of comfort, visual aspects, wider viewing angle, higher resolution, we have redesigned the graphics and added interaction with hand gesture recognition for a more accessible and natural use. The experience has been unanimously acclaimed by all generations and the Paris Musées team is delighted." explains Nino Sapina, founder of RealCast.

Last January, Insurrection 1944 won the Aurea Award 2019 at Europa Park. "Today it is certainly one of the most advanced experiences in this field and many museums have visited us for inspiration" attests Nino Sapina. "The 360 Film Festival's AR Grand Prix AR was very important for us and we thank you again for your support."

RealCast doesn't stop there, because "numerous projects with major institutions, historic sites and large groups are in preparation".

BEST SOUND AWARD

In 2019, the 360 Film Festival created the first technical awards for immersive creations. The first Best Sound Award went to Accused #2 : Walter Sisulu !

Accused #2 : Walter Sisulu

from Nicolas Champeaux, Gilles Porte

La Générale de Production took up a real challenge: to create an immersive experience combining 2D animation and audio capture dating from 1963 from 256 hours of sound archives digitized by the INA. The audacity paid off because after participating in numerous festivals around the world, the experience became an exhibition.

"Inaugurated at the end of 2019 at the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg, the exhibition, which combines narrative and immersive work, was a great success, both with visitors and the press." explains Jeremy Pouilloux, producer at La Générale de Production.

With its success, La Générale de Production continues in immersive with two new projects in development. Jeremy Pouilloux tells us about them.

La Mouche from Charlotte Pouch and Alice Butaud : a very poetic 360° film in which the spectator plays a woman, according to her peregrinations, and deals with the unbearable harassment of everyday life. The film is in development and will be shot in live action.

Le Putsch de Gulliver : animated interactive RV adaptation of Gulliver's Journeys, in development with France Télévisions. The adventure can be lived from Gulliver's point of view and/or from the point of view of a lilliputian. It can also be experienced in cooperation with another spectator.

La Générale de Production's projects support her interest in narration combined with technique. You will have to be patient to discover them but we will answer present.

GRAND PRIX LARGE FORMAT

Since 2018, the 360 Film Festival has opened its competition to large format content, highlighting the creation of Dôme, Mapping 360, CAVE... screenings. In 2019, the first Grand Prix Grand Format was awarded to an immersive experience combining Science and Myths :Áróra !

Áróra

from Tommy Caron and Sarah Ouellet

Áróra, created by the Montreal studio Thinkwell, is a show produced for the Reykjavik planetarium that takes us into the scientific and mythological secrets of the Northern Lights.

At the heart of this immersive experience, this dome projection offers us incredible images of the Northern Lights captured in Iceland and scientifically explains their creations. Then come one by one the myths surrounding them through the different civilizations that have encountered them.

Initially designed for the Reykjavik Planetarium in Iceland, the experiment has since participated in various festivals and won prestigious awards:

. Best Documentary - Minsk International Fulldome Festival
. Best Full Dome Film - Baikal Internationnal Film Festival

Find the trailer of Áróra below.

To receive the Grand Prix Large Format, Pascale Cosse, cultural attaché of the Délégation Générale du Québec en France, represented the dome content team to receive the Grand Prix Grand Format. During her presence at the festival, she gave us an overview of digital creation in Quebec.
